Ozarks Dharma Community is a Buddhist Meditation Group in Southwest Missouri composed of informal and diverse practitioners. We are dedicated to sharing the Buddha's teachings in a practical way. All are welcome.
We are fortunate that so many wonderful resources are available to us that can encourage us to begin, strengthen, and deepen our practice.
There is a growing body of research documenting the benefits and outlining the basics of a mindfulness practice. These resources are especially for those of us who want to explore meditation without exploring Buddhism, are looking for resources to be used in a non-religious context, or who want to understand meditation from a more evidence-based or clinical perspective.
Ozarks Dharma Community is happy to announce a new Saturday Study, every third Saturday of the month starting March 17, 2018. Led by ODC Facilitators, Saturday Study will explore the Four Noble Truths and Eightfold Path.
What are the Four Noble Truths and the Eightfold Path?
The Buddha taught about “dukkha”, an ancient Indian word frequently translated as suffering. However, dukkha can also be translated as stress, unsatisfactory, unease, out-of-joint, out-of-synch, etc.
The Buddha taught the Four Noble Truths that: dukkha occurs; dukkha is caused by craving, which arises out of ignorance, attachment and aversion; dukkha ceases; and we can cultivate an Eightfold Path that leads to the cessation of dukkha.
That path entails a practice by which we can learn to pay attention to and become skillful in eight inter-related domains of our behavior: views, intention, speech, conduct, livelihood, effort, concentration, and mindfulness.

And every week, we've had a safe and peaceful place to grow. We've grown so much in size that it's time for a change of address: one that has more parking, a central location and easy access by bus. Starting July 1, 2017, our new home will be at National Avenue Christian Church near National and Sunshine at 1515 S National Ave, Springfield MO 65804.National Avenue Christian Church has a commitment to being open and inclusive. This dovetails with ODC’s own ideals to share and learn from the Buddha's teachings in a practical, non-dogmatic way. Our last meditation at Dinh Quang Temple is Saturday, June 24, 2017. We may be changing our address, but the temple -- and the generosity of the…
